Certificates Issued for the International Workshop “Ethics of Academic Supervision and Responsibilities of Supervisors”.
Issues such as plagiarism, authorship disputes, time pressures, and funding constraints remain among the most common ethical dilemmas faced by both researchers and supervisors. To provide a practical framework for addressing these challenges, the international workshop “Ethics of Academic Supervision and Responsibilities of Supervisors” was held on August 31, 2025, with the participation of more than 200 researchers from across the globe.
The workshop explored the foundations of developing an ethical charter that governs the relationship between supervisor and student, setting standards of conduct and communication. It also examined the rights of students and their academic independence in balance with the responsibilities of supervisors in planning, guidance, constructive feedback, and documenting progress. The sessions provided a platform for exchanging insights into sound supervisory practices and ensuring a fair and safe research environment.
The workshop addressed several key themes:
Ethical charter for supervisors and students: professional conduct and communication standards.
Responsibilities of supervisors: academic guidance, scheduling and follow-up, constructive feedback, and progress documentation.
Rights of students and limits of supervisory roles: academic independence, intellectual property, and data management.
Addressing common ethical dilemmas: plagiarism, authorship, and pressures of time and funding.
The workshop was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdelazim Mahmoud Mabrouk, Faculty Member at the Department of Grammar, Morphology, and Prosody, Faculty of Dar Al-Ulum – Fayoum University, Egypt, who shared his academic expertise and practical scenarios to help participants navigate ethical challenges in academic supervision effectively.
