Behavioral Economics

Introduction

Behavioral Economics is a modern branch of economics that integrates insights from psychology, economics, and decision-making studies in order to better understand how individuals make choices and how those choices can be guided toward more rational and effective outcomes.

Traditional economic theory often assumes that individuals make decisions in a rational manner and select the option that maximizes their benefit. This idea is closely associated with rational choice theory, which suggests that when people are presented with several alternatives, they are expected to choose the option that provides the greatest utility or satisfaction.

Behavioral economics, however, challenges the assumption of perfect rationality. It examines how psychological, cognitive, emotional, and social factors influence the decisions of individuals and institutions, often leading them to make choices that differ from those predicted by traditional economic models.

Dr. Randa Talal Hassan

Dr. Randa Talal Hassan is a faculty member at the College of Political Science, Al-Nahrain University, Iraq. She received her PhD in Political Science in 2021 and has held the academic rank of Lecturer since 2013.

Her specific academic specialization is International Economic Relations. She is also a member of the Arab Forum for Women’s Studies and Training and a member of the Hun Volunteer Team for Women’s Empowerment.
