The Importance of Teaching Practicum in Preparing and Training Student Teachers in Educational Settings

Introduction

This lecture aims to clarify the concept and importance of the teaching practicum in preparing and training students in colleges of education who undertake supervised teaching practice during the final stage of their undergraduate studies. The teaching practicum enables student teachers to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during their university education, put educational and psychological principles into practice, and develop a range of essential teaching skills.

It also helps bridge the gap between theoretical preparation and practical classroom experience by providing student teachers with opportunities to engage directly in authentic educational settings. In this sense, the teaching practicum represents an important form of professional preparation that equips future teachers with the competencies required for their specialization and their subsequent professional responsibilities.

Dr. Wasan Abdul Azeem Fahim Al-Idami – Iraq

Lecturer at Sheikh Al-Tusi University College. She holds a PhD in Modern and Contemporary History from the College of Education, University of Al-Qadisiyah, awarded in 2019. Her academic experience includes teaching courses within and related to her specialization, and she currently teaches Educational Psychology and Teaching Practicum in the Departments of Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Education at Sheikh Al-Tusi University College. She has also published research in peer-reviewed academic journals and participated in a number of professional and academic training programs.
