Introduction to Mental Arithmetic

Introduction

Mental arithmetic means performing addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication using the human mind without relying on a calculator. Students who can calculate mentally often have greater confidence in themselves and their abilities. Mental arithmetic is an especially important mathematical skill: it encourages independence, strengthens memory and thinking ability, improves comprehension and analytical skills, and develops auditory concentration. This lecture therefore introduces the concept of mental arithmetic and explains practical methods for performing calculations mentally.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Ehab Ismail Ahmed

Former Assistant Professor of Statistics at the Islamic University of America. He has taught statistics at the Islamic University of America, Al-Hidaya University, and Brussels University, as well as economics and accounting at the Islamic University of America. He has served as a statistical and feasibility-study consultant to the Egyptian Inventors Syndicate, the World Federation for Child Welfare in Egypt, and the Everest International Organization for Inventions in Jordan. He is a member of the Union of Arab Academics and Scholars and of the Everest International Organization for Inventions as an inventor. He is also a reviewer in statistics, statistical analysis, and feasibility studies for the American Goody Journal, a member of the Global Trainer Academy in Sohag, Egypt, and an international SPSS trainer for the Everest International Organization for Inventions in Jordan.
